What you wrote under “If I just had the time…” makes me feel less crazy and like being nicer to myself. Thanks!

Thank you for reading <3 Our expectations are most of the time unrealistic. Not our fault, the overall culture and messaging is pretty misleading :(

So fascinating to read your process and thoughts--and your research (the personas were so fun to read)! It's interesting because I'm just so used to learning solo with a workbook and curated media for listening but I'm finding that a difficult model to maintain now. I'd say I'm now in circumstances that are less optimal my way of managing has been to narrow my scope: less languages to study (and formats), shifting focus on just maintaining what I already know (usually via media exposure). But the idea of tracking (can't believe I haven't done that yet) is right up my alley and can help me plan for it better instead of just going with the flow. It's definitely the push I need!

I hope you write more in detail about your process and what you use, I am always looking for inspiration(also multiple languages at the same time, wow!). Maintenance is so important, that is a great point! About the tracking, I have to admit that I love the moment when I mark a day as finished in my notebook, and seeing them multiply. As I said in the post, streaks aren't important for me, but seeing me come back even after a longer time and keep going is a big part of my motivation. I have to do a lot of reading for work so that limits how much I can study for just my own pleasure, and I know I cannot have goals too ambitious. Small steps forward :)

Thank you! Yeah, those were my bygone peak learning days, haha. I’m now looking to get back into it after too long of a break so I’ll definitely keep a topic like that in mind—your article has really been both eye-opening and inspiring! It’s all about taking those small steps and keeping it up—whatever works, as you said. I’m in the same boat now with being limited so I’m trying to make my goals more realistic too. Looking forward to seeing what you share next and how you progress!
